food blogging day 3: lunch at the rooms March 3, 2010

So, yesterday my friend Andy and I went to The Rooms for lunch. Is it sad that I didn’t even know they had a restaurant? Anyway. We set out around 11:00 – which is early for me, but Andy has weird hours.
The Rooms is actually a museum / art gallery / archive facility in St. John’s, and it’s got some of the most interesting architecture I’ve ever seen.
The name of the restaurant there is the Red Oak at the Rooms, and it’s beautiful because it’s surrounded by windows and open space.
Despite that my favourite part was the ceiling. They look like plain old twinkle lights, but when you look a little closer you can see that they’re not!
Andy ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with roasted potatoes, but I forgot to take a picture in time and he had it half-gobbled before I knew it. Look how pleased he is with himself.
I had a poached pear and caramelised walnut salad. It came with raspberry vinaigrette but I didn’t use any – it was tasty enough on it’s own! I also had a red lentil and vegetable soup. Holy crap guys. Best soup EVER.
I also had a glass of cranberry juice. Don’t let him fool you, I don’t do wine before noon!
It was a most delicious lunch. I love salads that are iceberg lettuce free! They’re sooo much tastier and YUM. We were out of the restaurant by quarter after twelve, giving me lots of time to work afterwards. Tomorrow: the ultimate green monster!
